Learn control

You will learn to control your brainwaves to be in the optimal state every time you compete

There are various formats of training and coaching.  After an initial consultation you will be advised which will be most beneficial to you.

These range from virtual training sessions by Skype / phone to extended coaching over a few months.  A significant factor in deciding suitability is your current ability.  Higher performing individuals will be invited onto a coaching programme. Those still developing technical proficiency may be more suited to a shorter training course.

This coaching is most suited to those competing in individual sports, such as golf, archery, tennis and clay targets shooting.  You can read specific information on some of these sports below.

Achieve precision focus and concentration

Control competition nerves

Develop a mental resilience to pressure

Understand what ‘The Zone’ truly is and how to control it

Training Vs. Coaching

In all our work together, there are options between "training" and "coaching"

Training

The time we spend together where you learn the required knowledge to improve your mental performance.

Coaching

This is my support to help you implement the training.  Also working on Competition Management in preparation for and during tournaments. This is typically done remotely via regular phone calls, video analysis and emails.

Coaching Support

We all know that having a coach to whom we are accountable significantly increases our chances in success

You have probably experienced being told or having read some expert advice, which seems fantastic and will positively impact you.  But it is so much harder to implement it on your own. You may have then run out of steam or given up after a few short weeks.

It is the same with mental training.  You can attend the courses, listen in on the webinars but you need someone to keep you on track in the early weeks.  Which is why for any student completing a private training session, you can then choose to have me support you as your mental coach.

During this we will work together to review your training, establish a training regime and then debrief after practice sessions or competitions.  Over the last two decades I have seen most, if not all, of the problems encountered along the way to building a strong mental game!

The coaching is available on a monthly subscription and includes: x2 training phone calls, email support and x1 video review / analysis.

This mental training for all sporting clays disciplines is the most successful based on the results of clients…

post shooting analysis

Trap / Skeet Shooting

  • …do you know which state of mind you should be in while the others in the squad are shooting?
  • Do you know what you should be doing five seconds before you call for the target?
  • And what should you do in the 0.5 seconds before you call “Pull”?

There is a gear-shift of mental activity which you will learn to move between. This will ensure you are not wasting mental energy when you are not shooting. Amongst others, you will have two especially powerful techniques so you will not get nervous or distracted and importantly you will hit a peak of mental concentration consistently just as you call for the target.

English Sporting / FITASC

In English Sporting or various FITASC disciplines,

  • …do you know exactly how you should use your brain when you have an opportunity to see and plan for the target presentation?
  • Do you know what is the best thing to be doing between layouts or stands?
  • How can you re-set yourself from a distraction, such as a series of “no-birds” or a noisy squad member and not get frustrated?
  • Does the pressure of a perfect score on a stand or layout get to you?
  • What do you do in disciplines such as Compak, while others in the squad are shooting?

Did you know that there is one mental level needed for the brain to plan the shot and another for when you see the target? Get this right and your shooting will feel effortless. Get it wrong and you will be over planning and mentally distracted.

How can this help you?

The objective of this mental training is to ensure you shoot consistently at the best of your technical ability.

Mental training can only take you as far as your technical skills. However, can you perform at that peak level when it matters?  That is what you are going to achieve with this training.

We are all different.  So your training will be tailored to you.  A pre-shot or mental routine which works for one person may very likely not work for someone else. Whilst general concepts can be successfully taught in a group / classroom environment, to really get a strong, working system for you, 1:1 training is essential.

Depending on your technical ability there are different options available.  In an initial discussion this will be evaluated and discussed with you to determine which is most suitable and cost effective for you.

Typically, if your averages are above 75% or 20/25, then you will best benefit from the Advanced eight week coaching programme.  If you are lower than this level, a more introductory, step-by-step format of training might be more appropriate as you further refine your technical game.

What Now?

The next stage is for you to contact us for an initial discussion.  You will first need to provide details about your performance, including averages. It would be useful to know who assists you on your technical coaching.  Also why you feel mental coaching is the next step for you. Perhaps you have some examples of recent situations.

After we have received this information we will then contact you to schedule an initial telephone discussion with Henry Hopking where more detailed questions can be asked.  This is to help advise you which programme is going to benefit you most.

Mental Training for Golf

Have you ever made a poor shot because you can’t quieten your mind, or forget about distractions around you?

In this training you will learn how to achieve a quiet mind with intense focus on demand. You will build consistency in your game better mental strength.

How Can This Help?

  • Does your mental game cost you shots?
  • Would you like a quiet mind at key moments?
  • Can you focus when the pressure is on?

It is often said that golf is predominately a mental game.  If this is the case, what are you doing to improve this aspect of your game? You have probably heard or read about the benefits of positive self-talk or visualisation, but that alone is not sufficient.

You can learn to control your mental states and how to achieve a quiet mind with total focus.

The key behind all this is learning to control your brainwave activity. Nerves and pressure result in a feeling of mind-chatter, caused by your faster brainwaves dominating.  Lapses in concentration can be caused by an increase in slower brainwave activity.  Total focus with a quiet mind requires control of the middle brainwave frequencies.

You have probably achieved this before, sometimes called “The Zone”, but frustratingly you don’t know how to control this.

This training teaches you how to access the optimal states for focus and concentration on demand. You will have a pre-shot routine built tailored just to you.  There is no one blue-print that suits everyone.

Coaching

Henry Hopking has been coaching pro and amateur golfers improve their mental game for over a decade.  He has built strong relationships with some of the biggest names in the sport.

Mastering your mental game is not a quick fix (sorry!).  Also this training is not the total solution to all mental issues in the game (sorry, again!). But you can learn to control your focus on demand and build consistency into your game.

If you feel that your focus and concentration is costing you shots, then this coaching is for you.

Depending on your training options, this is what you will get:

  • Private 1:1 coaching with Henry Hopking
  • A pre-shot routine to control your mental states
  • Brainwave technology to continue your training at home
  • Coaching support to ensure your success.
